How I Learned to Surf

Since Florida doesn't have snow skiing, I decided to learn to surf. I love trying new and exciting things.

Surfing looks easy but it takes bravery, perseverance, and lots of practice. Here's how it went:

First, the team does a warm up and a stretch on the beach. The coach gives us a pep talk about having fun and being safe. We then did a swim test before we were able to get on the boards.

Second, I learned how to pop up on the board and where to put my feet to balance. I did this on the beach a couple of times to get it right before I went into the water. There is a lease with a Velcro band that goes around your ankle to keep the board from getting away from you.

We then went into the water and practiced what we learned on the beach. I learned to control the board so I don't hurt myself or others around me. I learned to stand while you're riding the really big waves. Scary, but you learn fast and it's fun!

When learning new things, I always remember to speak up and ask for help. I love learning and challenging myself. I also love being around the ocean.

When you love something it is worth all the hard work you put into it.
